Bass Fishing At Night Ignored?
Bass fishing at night doesn’t get the media attention that fishing bass in the day time gets. Most everything on the TV, in magazines and on the Internet, as far as bass fishing goes, is all day time fishing! Whats up with that? Are the fishing stars and their camera men afraid of the dark? Don’t they know that bass fishing is just as good, in fact usually better at night?
Since I discovered this often over looked fact my bass fishing has become more productive. And guess what? I am having more fun to boot! Yep, I don’t come home empty handed anymore. But “why is night bass fishing better?” you ask.
Why It Works
Well the first and foremost reason revolves around the nature of the beast. Plain and simple, bass are more active at night. They are nocturnal and they hunt at night. They dislike or maybe I should say, they hate the sun light. They avoid it as much as possible. During the day they hunker down in shaded areas or head to deeper (and colder) water where they rest up for the next nights activity.
Now granted, they do catch bass in the day time obviously. Bass are so aggressive that they will hit any bait or lure that happens by but at night they are actively looking for something to eat, they are “hungry!” And that is the edge you need to improve your results. No need to run your boat all over the lake trying to find bass that are hitting… they hunt for you!
I know this sounds to good to be true but it gets even better!
The second reason night bass fishing is so good is you will have the lake all to yourself! There might be a few night anglers around (the secret is getting out) but all the recreational boaters and party animals will be home asleep. Just you, a buddy, the outdoors and all those hungry bass! I know I sound a bit dramatic, but I get pumped when ever I talk (or write) about fishing, especially night fishing. And I am blessed with a wife that likes it just as much as me. Yes night fishing is a great activity for the whole family.
Things To Consider
If you are going to fish at night it takes a little planning because you will be dealing with everything in the dark. That can be a bit awkward at first but that goes away after a couple of trips. It doesn’t matter, you can fish from the shore or a boat with equal success. I preferred a boat since I keep all the necessary night fishing gear stored in it and all I have to do is hook up and go. Anyway, bass fishing at night is the greatest but you got to get off your duff and go to enjoy it!
