Lure Fishing #35 – Hot Bucktail Jig Fishing for Smallmouth Bass in a Small River

Total smallmouth bass in the video: 7

Best smallmouth bass in the video: 4:36 and 10:51

I was jig fishing where a small river meets a lake in New York during late summer or early fall (mid September). I was fishing by twitching, dragging, and jigging a variety of bucktail jigs. I hooked into a number of smallmouth bass over 16″, including some smallmouth bass over 17″, and I also caught a few small bass under 15″. I’ve caught bass like these in almost all of my smallmouth bass fishing videos, but what made this trip special was the hot the fishing action; I hooked into around 9 fish in 10 or 11 short casts. Right after I hooked into the last bass in the video, I got a few more light taps on tube jigs, bucktail jigs, and curly tail jigs on the other side of the bridge, but it seemed like a massive cold front was coming through, and then the temperature dropped maybe 20 degrees right after, and I couldn’t get a hit.

This is one of many videos in the Lure Fishing series — watch others for triple-digit numbers of fish, trophy fish, the tips and techniques I pick up along the way, and more!
