Bed Fishing For Big Smallmouth Bass
Smallmouth bass fishing is a lot of fun… when they are on their beds it can be even more fun! In this video Dan goes fishing for big smallmouth bass on beds. The ned rig is a great lure for catching spawning smallmouth.
The big female smallmouth are only up for a short time so you got to be out smallmouth bass fishing a lot to hit it right when the big pigs are up!

While similar to a largemouth bass, they are definitely different in their feeding tendencies. I went out to one of my local Michigan creeks to catch some smallmouth bass. I struggled to keep the pike from biting and breaking my line, but also managed to catch a few nice creek smallies on day two.

Rod/reel:

We caught so many Giant Smallmouth Bass but the bite was super finicky. The only thing we could get them to eat was the ned rig!

The ned rig basically made this entire trip!

4″ – creeks, rivers, ponds (spinning tackle, 6′ 6″ medium light or medium rod, 10-15 lb braid, 6-8 lb mono or fluoro, texas rig – 2/0 ewg hook or wacky rig 1/0 finesse split shot hook)

5″ – most versatile, effective in almost all scenarios (spinning or baitcasting tackle, 6’6″ medium or medium heavy rod, 15-30 lb braid, 12-15 lb mono or fluoro, texas rig – 3/0 or 4/0 ewg hook or wacky rig – 2/0 finesse split shot hook)

In this video, I fish a COLD FRONT in hopes of putting together a pattern for some big fish. After a few solid fish, a TRUE GIANT SMASHES my crankbait RIGHT at the bank.
